Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Comfortable for long and short trips alike. Great acceleration for passing. Handles road imperfections smoothly and far less body roll than my 95 Laredo, it feels good. The vehicle does seem to wander a bit in a strong cross wind. I live on a dirt road in the mountains - QuadraDrive system is sure footed on all surfaces, including ice and snow. Heated seats are great. 18-20 mpg seems good for a V-8 SUV.

This vehicle is a reliable and able SUV. Most mechanical problems occurred in the first few years and were covered under the warranty. Interior and exterior have held up well though you need a bug deflector to protect the hood.

  • Looks Nice but breaks - 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Here is what has broken: Transmission, AC evap, AC cond, AC high pressure hose, AC compressor, catalytic converter, water pump, CV boots, rear axle seal, axle bearings, door wiring harness (twice), interior mirror, radio, exhaust manifold, Thottle body warped, fuel tank check valve, front suspension bushings, brake caliper froze on the freeway. I have had the Jeep since new and did all maintance as listed. A friend also has the same Jeep and he has had similar problems. Im going back to Subaru and Toyota for my cars now!

  • MY favorite 2 person car - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is a fun car. In town or on the highway it is fun to drive and easy to handle. Off road it performs like a champ. It is big enough to be safe and small enough to behave in tight city traffic. The console display has more warnings and information than you would believe!

  • Terrible Reliability - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I take emaculate care of my vehicles. Regular oil changes, service inspections, etc. The vehicle is used on-road between work and home. Here are the problems 1 Window Motors 2. Fuel Pump 3. Air Conditioner 4. Transmission Slipage 5. Radiator Problems 6. Numerous Recalls Its nice they fixed most under warranty, but who wants to deal with issue after issue? The pain of dropping it off and picking it up. I just traded my Jeep (40000miles) for a Toyota Sequoia and dont regret the decision at all. Bottom line, purchasing this vehicle is a risk. Do you think youll be lucky?

  • it was ok...now I wonder - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought my car as a demo. I noticed automatically that when I would stop it would shake and seemed like it wanted to turn off. I took it in and they "fixed" it. That problem was never fixed. The mileage is bad I get 13.6 miles city AND highway. THe check engine has come on since I bought it and they could never find anything wrong with it. My power windows now stop sometimes. The alarm is not working. Did I mention the gas? That is horrible. I always wanted to own one of these vehicles I liked it at the beging because it was pretty then the seats really got stained and I could not find anyone who could take the stains on. I would not get one again looking to trade in value is low

  • The Best - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my third Jeep and it is the best ever. The ride is smooth and handling is great. I travel at lot as the result of my job and I feel very safe in this SUV. Also the features added to this years model make it very appealing to women. Very comfortable on long tips.

  • Awesome SUV - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I purchased this Jeep, never owning an SUV before. It runs great, has been incredibly reliable, and I havent had any issues with it. Im surprised at how great of a car it has been. The only thing, as with all suvs, is the gas mileage. Its good for an SUV, but its not a Honda Civic. Overall it has been a great vehicle.

  • Shameful for the price - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I paid too much money for this vehicle to be worried about everything breaking. Ive had to have an automatic window break and the fuel pump replaced. Now my side view mirror is broken and costs $500 to replace. Whats next??!! Im very irritated that Daimler/Chrysler knows that there are mechanical/design flaws such as with the fuel pump (Bulletin #1400201), and yet they expect the customers to pay for their shoddy workmanship. I really expected a quality,top-of-the- line car when I purchased my Jeep. My Toyota 4-Runner NEVER, EVER gave me any trouble. I will NEVER buy another Jeep!
